The number one thing that psychologists and researchers say that keeps people from adhering to an exercise program or to even begin one in the first place is that they find no enjoyment in it. Most Americans simply just don’t enjoy exercising and whatever motivation that gets them to start an exercise program, lack of enjoyment will eventually cause most to stop. As a fitness professional, my biggest challenge is to get people to have fun while exercising and to find new ways to accomplish this, and then I had my first stand up paddling experience.
Like most people who try stand up paddling for the first time I was instantly hooked. The sheer joy of paddling initially clouded my perception of what a fantastic workout it is. Then I had a “light bulb” moment, I just discovered a way to get past the enjoyment barrier for exercise adherence. I might be on to something. I could go into detail about the physical benefits of stand up paddling, that it helps in the five main areas that most people have issues with: balance, core strength, posture, cardiovascular conditioning and hip and shoulder integrity, but I would rather focus on just how much fun I can have paddling. Some of my best professional experiences have been introducing people to the stand up paddling world. It also opens up doors to new ways to train clients. Which would I rather tell my clients, that we are going to do some “fun” core and hip integrity exercises in a sweaty crowded gym or that we are going to spend time in the water and chase dolphin around for an hour. One conjures up images of torture, and the other a sense of fun and adventure, but both accomplish the same thing, healthy functional exercising.
Stand up paddling is such a fun and useful tool to help out our country’s biggest health problem, being sedentary. Most people are a short drive from some form of water, whether it is the crystal clear blue waters of Hawaii and Florida, the chilly waters of the Great Lakes or your local river, lake or pond. There are very few “exercises” that are as all encompassing, full body, functional workout that are this much fun. Stand up paddling will open the door for people to live the healthy lifestyle that we need. If you have not tried stand up paddling you need to find out the about the fun you have been missing. It is a fantastic way to get started being active and being healthy. |
SUP FITNESS BOOTCAMP
Presented by: SUP KULTURE & Titan Gym
SUP FITNESS Boot Camp is an all-inclusive physical conditioning program for men and women, that combines the expertise and benefits of personal training with the camaraderie, stimulation and motivation of working in a group setting with others just like you, striving to achieve their goals. Its old-school fitness meets the centuries old Polynesian paddling. SUP (stand up paddling) at its finest, nothing fancy, only what works and has stood the test of time – I’m talking squats, push-ups, pull-ups, crunches and running, and of course a lot of sweat. Remember…
SUP FITNESS Boot Camps are designed to get results – challenging, yet fun. The training philosophy for this camp involves the use of functional movements, or movements that occur in daily life. Which incorporate core stabilization, flexibility, strength, balance, and spatial awareness.
We all have stress. My goal is to train you to be able to withstand and better handle the pressures of a physically, emotionally and mentally demanding life and daily schedule. To do this, the exercises for this camp entail learning to move the body in functional patterns.
This type of training will best prepare you for competitive sport or the tasks of everyday life.
Training will sometimes not be easy, but you will see results, and you will have fun doing so
